Rescue is my favorite Breed.

I finally got to meet sweet baby Ferris, who came into my studio to get his portrait taken. Ferris is a German Shorthaired Pointer mix, looking for his forever home. He was brought up from North Carolina by my friend, Janet Schroeder of Second Chance Animal Rescue of CT after he underwent a leg amputation due to injuries from a car accident.

Hi. I’m Ferris.

We were scheduled to have our photoshoot a couple of weeks ago but had to postpone because Ferris needed a second surgery to repair damages from his first amputation. After his second surgery, he developed a raging infection and needed to be put on multiple antibiotics to help him recover. But Ferris is a fighter and despite all he has gone through to get to this point, he is a playful and happy boy. Ferris still has his sweet puppy breath, velvety coat and hasn’t quite grown into his skin. He will be a joyful addition to the family that adopts him into their hearts and home.
Ferris’s visit to my studio left me completely smitten.

As of my writing this, Ferris is still on pain medication and he’s still wearing his cone most of the time. Janet is hoping his stitches will come out next week. After that, he will be able to move on to his forever family.

I hope any of you reading this post will reach into your hearts and pockets and donate whatever you can to help Janet with the astronomical bills she is left with for Ferris’s care. No, for saving his life. Because the long and the short of it is, Ferris would have died from his injuries or been euthanized had she not taken him in.

What people like Janet do is not easy. She doesn’t have corporate backers or a social media account with millions of followers. She runs a small-scale rescue and brings up dogs from high-kill shelters in the South. The money for the expenses she incurs comes out of her own pocket. Since I can’t do what Janet does, I can help Janet and people like her who put themselves out there to save animals by offering my services as a photographer to help these dogs get noticed. And use my social media space to call attention to these dogs in need of forever homes. You can give rescues like Second Chance the ability to keep saving dogs by sharing this post and donating here.
